Silhouette Against An Artsy Sky

image

Do you ever look up and the sky looks like one vast, endless canvass covered in the most amazing art? For me, that’s like an everyday, phenomenon. Everyday, the sky looks like a new painting; some more beautiful and causing deeper feelings than others previous or subsequent. Today’s sky was a bright blue, white and grey masterpiece, a sight to be savored; to be captured for future enjoyment, the silhouette of the building and tree only adding to the elements that made this artwork all the more beautiful. And capture it, I did. In my own small manner, I captured the beautiful vastness of an artsy sky over Lagos.

Dispelling The Darkness

Have you ever seen something in nature that just reminds you of something you’ve seen once in the movies? This particular view reminds me of scene in Harry Potter where he casts his patronus to dispel the dementors and I couldn’t help wondering who the darkness was swirling in to consume and what great magic the person is using to push away the impending doom. Sometimes I feel the darkness closing in and I need to find my patronus to give myself hope.

My patronus had better be a lion.

Against An Angry Sky

People seeing this picture would have wondered if I was worried about getting rained on when I took it. Quite the opposite actually; I was positively ecstatic! Considering how unmerciful the sun has been in recent weeks, it was pure bliss to gaze up at the sky, looking for all the world like a furious uncle standing over the city of Lagos, and expect the coming rain. I’ve taken a few pictures of the sky in recent times but this….. this has to be one of my happiest moments of all of them.

Against A Clear Blue Sky…

image

Took many times, you hear or read about clear blue skies in song lyrics or books or poetry. But seeing a clear blue sky is actually like a bit of fantasy
(at least in this part of the world!) because there’s always clouds to give the sky some other color. Today however, I got to experience a blue sky in all its clarity and, in spite of the fact that it also meant the sun’s rays beat down on me unhindered enough to make me blacker than I already am, I just couldn’t help seeing how beautiful almost everything looks against the backdrop of a Clear Blue Sky.

Brilliant.

Ahhh, the sun. Equal parts supporter of life, equal parts torturer of exposed bodies. I’ve always been fascinated with what the sun would look like up close, seeing it in all the glory of it’s majestic brilliance. Since that can’t happen any time soon – at least without being roasted to oblivion, I’m resorting to the next best thing, taking pictures of the sun when it’s not playing hide-and-seek behind a canopy of clouds.
It’s brilliant….. And it burns!!!

The Overcast

image

I always anticipate rain – well, almost always, it doesn’t do to get all drenched when I’m out and far from home without an umbrella! Still, whenever I see these grey clouds that carry the promise of nature’s shower, I feel this rush of expectation all the way to when the first, tiny drops make their way down to make sweet music on the roof – or on my head.
It’s simply beautiful.
