Stream And Trickle

image

I’m not much one for taking pictures of myself. But there’s this feeling of calm I get when standing under the shower and I just wanted to capture the moment. It’s just as I thought it would be – the water running down from the shower in a steady stream, through my hair, down my face before trickling to the bathroom floor below, taking with it feelings of stress, tension and unease.
And the Lagos heat too.

The Break-up Pair.

image

While out and about (as I usually am), I spotted this isolated pair of empty chairs at a small, round table and couldn’t help thinking – “this looks like the setting for an emotional breakup”. On second thoughts, I realized a lot more could happen here. A quiet marriage proposal (the direct opposite of my first thought, ironically), a setting for a sharing of secrets or the perfect layout for the very lonely individual to realize just how much he/she is missing a significant other. Unfortunately, a name had already stuck in my head and whenever I see this exact table with those two empty chairs, I’ll  think – “Hey, There’s The Break-up Pair!”.

Four Types Of Stickers I Hate

You know, there are some stickers you see and you can’t help thinking – whoever made that sticker should be shot. Well, I occasionally feel that way sometimes as well when I see certain stickers on certain surfaces. Okay fine, maybe not shot, but given a sound beating by a tout high on Oshogbo weed (I mean the touts that can actually fight, not those ones that spend three hours making noise before getting knocked out by one well-placed punch). Here are stickers I don’t like seeing:

A Tale Of Two Bridges

image

There’s this sense of enduring silence I felt when I walked under these two bridges. It felt like they are silent watchers, keeping an eye on all who pass under them. And they stretch into the distance and out of sight, like pathways to another realm. Simply surreal.

Memoirs Of A Kimmee Kay – 1

I really don’t like writing. I hate writing stuff because, I mean, I have to think and stuff and it just makes my head hurt. My publicist just says I should start writing stuff ‘cos it would make me more money. I mean, like, I would totally do anything for more money. So here I am, writing my daily memoirs, in between shooting my reality show, totally not being a mom (although I have Continue reading

Where Nature Ends

image

I like to think of nature as this uncontrollable force that can’t be hemmed in or limited. Seeing this however, this clean demarcation between the natural and the artificial just made me realize that maybe we do have some level of control over where goes. It’s beautiful though, this side-by-side coexistence of the born and the created.
It’s the beauty of life itself.

Still And Alive

image

I’m not much one for staged photography. I think I have more of an eye for capturing moments as I see them or as they happen. This was staged, but not quite. This was a bit of a deviation for me but still came out much better than I expected. There’s this mixture of blend and contrast between my friend who’s the model here and the background that just gives a sense of pictorial balance. I think I’m a bit more open to this now though 🙂

Twilights And Silhouettes

image

Evening photography is always amazing. Especially when the sky gives a mix of such colors that makes it appear like you’re looking up at one large painting. Then the silhouettes below give the kind of contrast that makes it all look one thing alone: beautiful.

Old Cathedral, Modern Street Corner.

image

Christ Church Cathedral is one of those icons of Lagos architecture that you identify on sight. And it’s one of those buildings that each time I get a picture of, it still looks amazing in a different way. This time, the blend of old-world architecture and busy, modern street corner was too strong an allure for me not to take a shot. And I did. And it’s amazing.

Picture: Old Lady With An Orange On Eko Bridge

image

It’s not all my pictures that actually come out the way I intend. This is one of those that turned out better than I expected. I wasn’t even trying to capture the lady like that. As at when I was approaching (in a moving vehicle), she was just taking out the orange. This picture looks like she was just waiting for the moment I would take the shot. When I looked at it after I passed, I thought: perfection.
