Sitting Under The Setting Sun

image

One of my best ways to spend evenings is to sit outside and watch the sun sink behind the buildings and cast a beautiful glow over everything as the moon begins to make it’s appearance. It’s just amazing, the colors that come with sunset and the beauty it transforms nature into. It’s picture perfect and it’s a moment not to be missed. You should try it sometime. It’s pure bliss.

The Storm Is Coming

image

Have you ever stood and watched the storm clouds sweep in to darken the sky? It’s a truly special moment, that point where you can see clear sky on one side and the deep darkness on another. I love them, because they illustrate life’s differences, how they can co-exist and how they instead choose to want to overrun each other. Nature shows us who we are sometimes. We need to stop, look and take lessons.

Silhouette Against An Artsy Sky

image

Do you ever look up and the sky looks like one vast, endless canvass covered in the most amazing art? For me, that’s like an everyday, phenomenon. Everyday, the sky looks like a new painting; some more beautiful and causing deeper feelings than others previous or subsequent. Today’s sky was a bright blue, white and grey masterpiece, a sight to be savored; to be captured for future enjoyment, the silhouette of the building and tree only adding to the elements that made this artwork all the more beautiful. And capture it, I did. In my own small manner, I captured the beautiful vastness of an artsy sky over Lagos.

Alone, Far And Away.

Being alone isn’t always a bad thing. I love my alone moments when I have a great view to look upon, silence to accompany me on my thought journey and a gentle breeze to keep me cool. Of course, I’m not the one in the picture (I couldn’t be if I took the picture too!) but where I took it from, in spite of my dizzying fear of heights(!), gave me the same experience: pleasant silence, a great view from above a spreading tree laden with leaves and flowers, and a gentle breeze and for that moment I could stop and think: life has its great moments. That certainly was one of them.

Dispelling The Darkness

Have you ever seen something in nature that just reminds you of something you’ve seen once in the movies? This particular view reminds me of scene in Harry Potter where he casts his patronus to dispel the dementors and I couldn’t help wondering who the darkness was swirling in to consume and what great magic the person is using to push away the impending doom. Sometimes I feel the darkness closing in and I need to find my patronus to give myself hope.

My patronus had better be a lion.

Twilight Glow Through The Window

image

I know, I take too many pictures of the setting sun! 😂. But I can truly think of few things more beautiful, that gives  different colors and views, each equally as beautiful as the previous and the next. I had just passed by the window when I saw the setting sun and I was instantly drawn back to capture the majestic beauty of a major source of our light and energy. The sun is simply, totally, just completely beautiful.

Glow Of A Rising Sun

There’s truly few sights more breathtakingly beautiful as when the sun makes its first appearance on the horizon in the morning, casting back the dark cloak of night and revealing the colors of life and nature in all their dazzling glory. Unfortunately, it’s a sight most of us either miss or don’t recognize for it’s beauty but this morning’s sunrise over a city of Lagos still being roused from sleep was something I just had to capture. It was all I had hoped for and more: breathtaking.:oops:

Against An Angry Sky

image

People seeing this picture would have wondered if I was worried about getting rained on when I took it. Quite the opposite actually; I was positively ecstatic! Considering how unmerciful the sun has been in recent weeks, it was pure bliss to gaze up at the sky, looking for all the world like a furious uncle standing over the city of Lagos, and expect the coming rain. I’ve taken a few pictures of the sky in recent times but this….. this has to be one of my happiest moments of all of them.

Magic Filters

image

Okay, I admit it. I love taking evening pictures. Really, evening light seems to make everything more visually appealing. I don’t know if there’s magic in the rays of the setting sun, but there’s just one description I had in mind for this view of the last light of day filtering through the mass of leaves and branches: magical.

Bathed In Color, Silhouetted In Shadows

image

I love when nature just shows how colorful it can be. Especially at evening time when shadows lengthen and everything starts to take on the color of the night. I think it’s even when the colors of the sky become more vivid and the shadows it casts on everything below paints a picture of balanced perfection.

Here’s the original Continue reading
